Tips for New Personal Trainers
Apart from a good working knowledge of the human body and how to the get the best from it, what other skills does a new fitness trainer need?
It's a question many graduates are faced with after they finish their studies, what other skills will make me a success?
There are a number of things you need to focus on, so for this exercise we'll choose just five.
1. Always finish a session on a positive
One of the most important aspects of being a Personal Trainer is knowing how to deal with different people. Those who need an extra push can be challenging, but you need to finish each session on a positive note.
2. Always present well
First impressions are very important for a Personal Trainer, as people will judge how well you can train by how you look. It may not be fair, but it’s often what happens, so staying fit and being well dressed will be pivotal to the success of your fitness training business.
3. Take notes
Your first session as a Personal Trainer will help you establish a rapport with a client. Take notes on what they want to achieve, what they've tried in the past, and how you think you can motivate them. Knowing your clients is the best way for a Fitness Trainer to have success.
4. Never stop listening
Monitor the moods of your clients by listening. As a Personal Trainer you need to know the difference between someone who is whining because they are struggling, and someone who may be injured.
5. Never stop learning
The fitness industry is always changing through new techniques, new classes, and new philosophies. As a Fitness Instructor you need to stay on top of what's happening on the industry. Never be afraid to add to your skill set with further training at Australian Institute of Fitness.
