But in case you hadn’t noticed, our Industry has grown dramatically since the days of legwarmers and leotards and for Fitness Professionals TODAY, the career options are endless!

So, if you are thinking of pursuing a career as a Personal Trainer, Jo Peisley, Training Team Captain NSW/ACT has a few ideas to get you thinking outside the box while you are completing your studies (or even before you start) to get you on the journey to finding your dream job!

#1 Personal Training

Yes, it sounds like the obvious choice but there are so many variations to being a Personal Trainer these days. Once you have your Master Trainer Program™️ you will be qualified not only to carry out one to one PT, but also;

  •  Group Training,
  •  Outdoor boot camps,
  •  Training children,
  •  Working with Older Adults,
  •  Working with special populations, and MORE!

If you are really into Group Fitness, you can up skill and complete short courses so you can then explore your personal interests with classes in;

  •  Dance & Zumba,
  •  Aqua Aerobics,
  •  Boxing and Marital arts,
  •  Les Mills pre-choreographed classes ,
  •  Yoga & Pilates,
  •  BARRE, the list goes on!

And once you feel established, have gained plenty of industry experience, and looking for your next challenge you then might think to consider;

  •  Owning your own studio,
  •  Purchasing a franchise,
  •  Develop skills in other area by taking roles such as Sales Consultant,
  •  Becoming a Club Manager,

#2 Online Coach or Educator

If you have a real desire to teach others and grow the standard and professionalism of our fitness industry then being an educator might be the way to go. Register Training Organisations (RTO’s) deliver the qualifications needed to get into the industry and look for experienced Personal Trainers with a real passion for the industry to present and deliver this training face to face and online.

Other options for education might be to deliver seminars or workshops, create your own CEC courses, or develop an online fitness program or education series as part of your PT business.

#3 Wellness Coaching

Everyone knows these days that being “healthy” is more than just about the body – it’s also about the mind, and in particular creating long term behavioural change.

Incorporating qualifications in Wellness Coaching can open up your options for working with your clients, stepping into the health Coach space and may lead to running some sessions or workshops for corporate business, community groups and even greater scope with your clients.

If the thought of up-skilling in the area of nutrition habits, motivational questioning and getting comfortable with the more emotive side of fitness – then this might be just the area for you!

#4 Travel Guide

Travel guides, or you may have heard of ‘Active Escape’ trainers, are currently all the rage, with travel and fitness packages being marketed through many travel outlets and online. Having your fitness qualifications can allow you to be the Fitness Professional and lead activities in places like Bali, Maldives and Thailand. Other options might be to become a tour guide for groups doing outdoor activities, or even travel the world working on luxury cruise ships.

#5 Sporting Teams And Summer Camp

Love kids’ sports and seeing the young ones embrace activity and have lots of fun? You may want to delve into the world of sports coach, team training for youth sports or even travelling to USA or Europe as a summer camp instructor.
