Packaging your skills and passions into a neat resume is an important part of landing your dream job as a Personal Trainer. These useful resume tips will help you stand out from the competition and into the employer's yes pile.
An easy to read, clear and concise layout will ensure an employer's eyes are drawn to the key parts of your resume. A simple layout includes:
- Personal information.
- Work experience.
1. Personal Information
Your resume should lead with your personal information, ensuring you clearly outline the means by which you are contactable. This includes your name, address, mobile number, email and website.
2. Work Experience
Leading with your most recent place of employment, list your roles chronologically. Ensure you include a short but comprehensive blurb highlighting your role, responsibilities and the skills you used to complete the job, as well as your official title, employer and the dates you worked in the position.
If fitness is a new field you are entering and your most recent place of employment was in an industry completely unrelated, such as working as a labourer or receptionist, don't be afraid to include these jobs as well as there may be certain skills that carry across.
Skills gained by either working in the fitness industry or another field are very appealing to employers. In this section, clearly list your key skills and how you have positively used these traits in previous positions.
Skills that are relevant to a career as a Personal Trainer include communication, marketing, admin, and sales.
To begin your career as a Personal Trainer, you will need the necessary qualifications. Remember to include your certifications and list them chronologically e.g.Certificate III in Fitness and Certificate IV in Fitness as well as any CEC courses you have done.
This should include a list of people around two who are able to vouch for your experience and character. If you would prefer to disclose these individuals after you have secured an interview, include the sentence references available on request'.
