Starting Massage Therapist?

Jun 26, 2014 | by AIF

Cool Hand Chris, Atomic Angelo and Magical Marie, your Massage Coaches at Australian Institute of Fitness in WA, give their top five tips for those about to embark on the Massage Therapist program.

Tip #1: Log onto eCampus

When you get your eCampus logon key, log on, jump in, and explore all the massage material on eCampus. We will do an introduction to this information in session 1, but being ahead of the eight ball before this time will make your eCampus experience a lot easier once you start to learn the in-class knowledge.

Tip #2: Go Shopping!

It’s not often someone tells you to do this, so take advantage! Go and buy some nice towels and some different massage oils and start to think about your professional image. Kmart and Target normally have great towel packs that are very affordable to kick-start your towel collection.

Tip #3: Start looking for a massage table

Before you come to campus have a look at these websites Firm-n-Fold, Azima,Athlegen and think about buying a massage table. We will discuss this in Session 2. Remember, with a massage table, you pay for what you get when it comes to quality and functionality. Your massage table will be the number one tool of your trade (after your hands!), so be prepared to spend a few dollars to set yourself up for success!

Tip #4: Review your anatomy

Review the muscles and bones sessions from your Fitness Essentials workbook. You will belearning more in depth knowledge on these topics from Session 3 onwards in your massage studies, and this knowledge will form the foundation to your massage techniques that you will be learning very shortly.

Tip #5: Treat yourself to a massage

The best and most enjoyable tip! Go and have a massage (or three), and take note of the style of treatment you receive, clinic surroundings including lighting, music, warmth and the general atmosphere, and cost of treatment. You will have to replicate all of this during the program, as well as when you run your own massage business. What do you see that you like? What would you change to offer a superior massage service?
