The Fitness Zone
At the Australian Institute of Fitness we pride ourselves on the quality of our coaches. They are all extremely experienced health and fitness professionals, who are passionate about empowering you to excel in your chosen career.
Some of them even started their new career by studying at The Institute, and bring a really interesting dynamic to the classroom as they know exactly what it feels like to be in the students’ position.
In this post we put the spotlight on Coach Chris Apps from Queensland, who has been one of the Institute’s success stories!
How would you describe your time as a student at The Institute?
Really enjoyable! I would look forward to finishing work and coming in to hang out with course mates and hearing great information from the coaches, who all had a unique way of teaching and different experiences to share.
Did you find work straight away, and if so, what did you do?
Yes, I was offered a position before finishing Master Trainer, and also before I finished Remedial Massage later down the track. It was much easier than I thought and having an Institute qualification helped me stand out!
What have been your career highlights?
When I could finally say good-bye to my full-time office job that I hated and started working in the health and fitness industry. I have never looked back!
How did you end up being an Institute Coach and what’s it like?
I was working as a Remedial Therapist in the city when I received an email from a former coach asking if I’d like to apply for a coaching position as one had just come up. It’s the least stressful and most enjoyable job that I’ve ever had. There are countless opportunities for professional and personal development and it isn’t plagued with the typical ‘office politics’ that usually occur in jobs.
Are you still a Massage Therapist?
Yes, I use all the skills and qualifications that I’ve attained to provide a more unique service. I see clients when I am not working at The Institute, and it is great to have multiple income streams.
What can students expect in your classroom?
A relaxed, flexible and enjoyable experience. You will look forward to class to get away from the usual stresses of life, just like I did when I came through.
Why should people study Massage at The Institute?
You get what you pay for, just like with clothes and food, the more you pay, the better quality. I could have gotten all my qualifications for cheaper, but I would not have had the same experience or gained such great knowledge that I did. There was never any doubt about getting a job because I knew I would stand out from others who didn’t study here.
