Preparing for Master Trainer
December 15, 2011

Thinking of starting Master Trainer? Here are some great ways to prepare for your new career in fitness.

It's preparation time!

  • Train regularly; the fitter you are the more prepared you will be and the more you will get out of the practical sessions.
  • Get a few sessions from a local Personal Trainer, so you know exactly what it's like to be the client.
  • Join a gym and get a program written and explained to you.
  • Do as many group exercise classes as you can, including the Les Mills classes, aqua, boot camp, and outdoor group training.
  • Ask your gym (or other gyms) if you can do work experience with them.
  • Study up on the structures of the body such as the major bones and muscles.
  • Plan how the course will fit into your life, and don't forget that you'll need to fit in study time too. Even if the plan is to go over course content for 10 minutes a night, it will help you in the long run.
  • Prepare your home; create a study space and ask your family if they can chip in more with the household chores. Also, ask for willing subject for trials' practice makes perfect!

Now for the course!

  • Make sure you are still walking the walk', whether you have your own Personal Trainer, enjoy group fitness classes, or pump through your own workout. This way you can feel what it's like to train in certain ways, learn to identify good technique, and ensure that you are the fittest, strongest and most confident Personal Trainer you can be!
  • Sit down and having a good ol chat' with some of the coaches. They've been there and done it, or are doing it. They know what it's like out in the industry; whether it is on cruise ships, interstate or overseas, in a big gyms or a small one, etc., and can have a huge impact on making sure you know what it's like before you get out there for yourself.

Opening the Door of Opportunity

Those who succeed are those who walk through the door of opportunity when it swings open. You see, you never know when the door of opportunity is going to open wide. For some, the big break comes early in life and for others later on. But for all of those who become successful, there is one key similarity: they were ready. And for every one of those who were ready, there were thousands more who weren't.

So, the principle is be ready'! Are you ready? Here are some thoughts for you to consider.

  • Are your skills as sharp as they could be? Are they enough so when your chance comes you can perform?
  • Is your character deep enough to handle success? Let's face it; you don't want big success if your character won't be able to handle it.
  • Don't just sit and dream. Be proactive and make sure that you are the most qualified when the door opens. Make sure that you are the hardest worker. Make sure you are the closest to the door.

When it opens Be Ready! Shhh. Do you hear that? Hinges creaking! It is the sound of the door opening. Your door of opportunity! Are you ready?
