The Fitness Zone
In 2008, Kayla Itsines graduated as a Personal Trainer from the Australian Institute of Fitness Adelaide campus. Going on to become an Instagram sensation and global fitness game-changer, Kayla has revolutionised the way millions of women train online around the world through her downloadable PDF guides.
What you probably didn’t know however, was there was a time when Kayla felt like giving up on her dream all together. At the launch of the latest installment in her fitness empire, her very own app ‘Sweat With Kayla’, Itsines admitted that some members of her family weren’t always so supportive.
As reported by Business Insider Australia, Kayla’s grandfather told her personal training was too physically demanding for a girl and her grandmother said:
“I know that you want to help women but you’re not going to be able to do it this way, so become a nurse.”
Kayla was disheartened and unsure how to continue her dream career without the support of her family, so she stopped training altogether.
Based on her insane success over the last few years, we all know the story doesn’t end there. Kayla pushed through her lowest point after her Dad gave her some life-changing advice.
Rather than giving her the approval she wanted, he told her to stop listening to what everyone else said and pursue the future that made her happy, words she repeated at the launch of the ‘Sweat With Kayla’ app this week.
“So you’re going to stop every time someone doesn’t like something about you? Every time someone doesn’t like what you’re doing, you’re just going to change to please them? Is that what you’re going to do for the rest of your life?
“Do what makes you happy, do what you want to do with your life. You only get to live once, and if this is what you want to do then follow your dreams and just do it. Stop crying and get up and do something about it.”
Those words were enough to get Kayla back onto the career path she was so passionate about. She now inspires women globally to follow her lead and build a life that excites them each day.
