The Master Trainer Program™ assesses on six extra criteria which, when achieved, will elevate you from a standard trainer to an AIF Certified Master Trainer Level 1. By equipping yourself with additional skills, knowledge and know-how, you’ll gain a competitive edge as you embark on your fitness career.

Delivered through a streamlined, engaging and effective learning experience, this program covers all the fitness fundamentals plus much more, including nutritional guidance, anatomy, physiology and exercise prescription. Students also learn training principles and considerations for a range of groups and special populations, such as adolescents, older adults, amateur athletes and people with body composition and endurance-based goals.

The course also has a strong business focus, with units addressing how to prepare for and set up your own fitness business, and the basic sales and marketing skills necessary to acquire clients. You will also learn how to positively influence exercise behaviour, and how to effectively use motion testers and wearable technology to enhance the service you provide to clients.

Plus, you will have the opportunity to attend FREE industry skills workshops to learn cutting edge training and equipment skills, in addition to our famous Fitness Industry Recruitment Expos (F.I.R.E. events) that directly connect students with employers.

Training & assessment

The program is delivered over 86 delivery sessions, including knowledge checks and assessment challenges, with some information being delivered and assessed both on campus and online. Six extra criteria must be met to gain the Master Trainer Level 1 certification.

Entry requirements

Students must be over over 17 before they begin SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness. They must also have a computer and internet access, a passion for fitness, and meet the Institute’s acceptance criteria. This includes an eligibility interview and demonstrating satisfactory levels of language, literacy and numeracy.

Students must successfully complete the prerequisite units before commencing SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness.

Note: As HLTAID003 is a superseded unit of competency, the AIF enrols all students of Fitness Essentials (Entry requirements ONLY for SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness) in HLTAID011 Provide First Aid as well as their qualification.  Students who successfully complete Fitness Essentials therefore attain both HLTAID003 and HLTAID011.  This strategy ensures that all students graduate with the most up to date First Aid training, as well as meeting training package rules.

SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness – Important Information: As of 9th November 2021 this nationally recognised qualification has been replaced by SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness. A transition period applies to SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness to enable currently enrolled students to fulfil their study goals and complete their qualification. The transition period concludes on 8th November 2022. If you have not completed all the requirements by this date you will be transitioned and enrolled into the replacement qualification SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness.

What are the entry requirements at the Australian Institute of Fitness?

Each student must meet our acceptance criteria and age requirements before studying with AIF. The AIF acceptance criteria assesses the skills and values of each and every student, such as punctuality and attitude, ensuring we are bringing the best people into the industry. We also verify you have the tools required to succeed, necessary written and verbal communication skills, and are committed to your goal.

How old do I have to be to study at the Australian Institute of Fitness?

You must meet the age requirements for the course you intend to study. To study a Certificate III in Fitness (SIS30315) you must be at least 16 years old on your course commencement date. For a Certificate IV in Fitness (SIS40210) you must be at least 17 years old on your course commencement date. To study for a career in massage with AIF, you must be at least 18 years old on your course commencement date.

How much does it cost to study at the Australian Institute of Fitness?

Tuition cost varies depending on course, study modality and applicable scholarships. We have multiple payment options available, including Study Loans, which our Careers Team will discuss to find the option that suits you.

How often do courses start at the Australian Institute of Fitness?

If you want to study on campus with AIF, we typically have multiple courses running at a time, along with new intakes launching regularly. Additionally, our Online modality commences every second month. With our variety of modalities and course start dates, you can start studying how you want, sooner, with AIF.

What modes of study are available at the Australian Institute of Fitness?

At AIF, you can choose to study in the way that suits you. We have full-time or part-time options available for on-campus study. Alternatively, study online with our self-paced online modality, as well as Online Plus+, our guided online option for those who prefer more interaction with their coaches and peers. Some courses are available online-only and some are on-campus only: check out more information about the qualification you are interested in for details on the study options available.

Are the Australian Institute of Fitness courses practical?

At AIF, we know that being a PT is a hands-on role, so our courses are designed to reflect this. Our on-campus students use gym-based sessions to learn from our Coaches and from each other. For our online modality, our students film their assessments with real-life clients, along with practical gym experience from wherever they are located.

How long does it take to become a Personal Trainer?

If you choose to study on-campus, you can complete your qualification in 30 weeks with our full-time option, and 35 weeks with our part-time option. Our Online Plus+ program is completed in 31 weeks, and our self paced online option can take up to 52 weeks.
