Hayden Quinn: How I Stay Healthy Over The Holiday Season

As a gym owner, cooking personality, presenter and fitness student, it’s no surprise Hayden Quinn relishes his time off over the Christmas break. With a high intensity lifestyle to pick back up when the new year rolls around, Hayden can’t afford to simply forgo healthy eating and workouts in December, so he has picked up a few strategies to stay healthy over the holiday period. 

“The biggest thing for me is making sure I am prepared” Hayden says, “healthy snacks particularly are an insurance policy against snacking on heaps of rubbish and over-eating.”

Ensuring the food he eats is able to fuel his busy lifestyle is a key part of Hayden’s personal recipe for a healthy holiday period. While he enjoys keeping active, Hayden says Christmas is one of the only times he get’s off work and he takes the opportunity to rest and refuel so he can hit the ground running in the new year. 

“Around this time I always pencil in time out so my body can re-energise” Hayden says, a refreshing and far more realistic strategy than some who advocate a strict gym routine year round.  

On Christmas Day Hayden equally chooses to focus on fresh and delicious food. "In Australia we are so lucky” says Hayden, relishing the chance to cook with seasonal and vibrant produce on Christmas Day. “I use as many colours as I can and there will always be a salad and seafood.” For a Christmas Day salad as bright as it is nutritious, look no further than Hayden’s Salad in a Jar recipe!  

Hayden’s advice on Christmas Day food coma? “Accept it” Hayden says. Instead of worrying Hayden focuses on managing his portions, "so I can enjoy each of the three lunches and dinners I will be packing in,” he adds.
