Jul 23, 2014 | by AIF

With more and more people looking for inspiring ways to get fit, the fitness industry is booming like never before and offering plenty of diverse and rewarding career paths.

Self-employed Personal Trainer

If you have a talent for motivating people and enjoy working one-on-one with regular clients, you could do well striking out on your own as a self-employed Personal Trainer. You’ll be providing instruction in many aspects of fitness and health, from exercise techniques to healthy eating habits.
Qualifications: The Australian Institute of Fitness Master Trainer program is the most popular and streamlined way to become a Personal Trainer, offering the nationally recognised qualifications of Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness. Combine this with AIF’s Fitness Business Program and you’ll also be gaining the necessary skills to start and run your own small fitness business.

Group Fitness Coach

Whether you’re teaching freestyle or Les Mills, a career as a Group Fitness Coach tends to be a high-energy mix of coaching, mentoring and entertaining. You’ll enjoy the buzz of leading a group and creating routines, as well as working closely with clients on their own personal fitness journey.
Qualifications: To qualify for this career path, you’ll first need a Certificate III in Fitness. Then you can decide whether you want to take further specialised qualifications, such as Les Mills, indoor cycling or boxing.

Fitness Business Owner

Starting your own fitness business is a strategic way to work in an industry you love while building your own path to financial success, and being your own boss.
Qualifications: Look to Australia’s first complete program to combine fitness and business qualifications – AIF’s Fitness Business Program. Graduates will walk away with everything they need to know about building a fitness business and running it successfully.

Aqua Aerobics Instructor

Water-based group exercise is available at a number of health clubs, and is particularly popular in the sport and therapy markets. As a result of it being a small part of the fitness industry, Aqua Instructors are in demand.
Qualifications: The Australian Institute of Fitness offers an Aqua Instructor program, which is specifically tailored to prepare graduates for a successful aqua aerobics career, and encompasses a Certificate III in Fitness.
