Getting the most out of your course

Jul 13, 2022 | by AIF

So you’re about to start your new fitness or massage studies, and you couldn’t be more excited! Trust us, we know the feeling. But before you get stuck in your studies, we have a few tips for you to ensure you get the MOST out of your course:

Soak Up The Industry

While you are studying, either face to face on campus, blended, or online, you will have the opportunity to meet leading industry professionals and gain advice from their experience. In addition to this, it is vital you immerse yourself and ensure you develop your experience. For fitness, try as many training techniques as you can find, and trial a bunch of different gyms, and while you are there introduce yourself to the fitness manager. Aim to learn a new technique every week, and implement in your own training to see what it actually feels like. Studying massage? Become familiar with different massage techniques, visit massage studios and chat to the owners!

Get Training

Throughout your course, you will be taught a number of different techniques to take your clients through training sessions, or a massage session. So to develop these skills, take a hour session once/twice a week and take a fellow student or a friend for a session to reinforce what you have learnt that week and gather their feedback.

Practice

Practise, Practise, Practise. Talk to and teach someone what you learnt today. It doesn’t matter who, just anyone that will listen. Perhaps offer to buy them a coffee in return for their time.

Prepare

At AIF you will be immersed in fitness and massage, not just virtually, but at our the practical workshops and treatment rooms as well. Fitness Warriors can be be prepared to workout a lot, so bring a change of clothes and your workout gear to workshops and get ready to get sweaty! Buy a packet of highlighters, these are particularly helpful for labelling our Bones and Muscle sessions, and Anatomy sessions.

Get To Know Your Coach

Your coaches are there for your support to ensure you have a firm understanding of all aspects of the course. If you have a question about a certain topic, or would like a coach to explain a module in more detail, let them know and book in a time outside of class to sit down one in one.

Get A Mentor

Whether it is a Personal Trainer from your local gym, or a massage business owner, get an experience from who ever you can and learn as much as you can.

Attend a F.I.R.E Night

F.I.R.E stands for Fitness Industry Recruitment Expo, and they are THE event to attend while you are studying, or even come back to one once you have finished your course. F.I.R.E Nights are mini expos  where we invite a bunch of our Career Partners to come along and share what a career with their business would be like. They are a great opportunity to meet and greet potential employers, arrange your training experience hours, learn from industry leaders and even book in a job interview!
