Expand Your Scope Of Practice To Get More PT Clients

Jun 26, 2014 | by AIF

Whether you’ve just started to think about pursuing a personal training career, or have already enrolled in the Master Trainer Program™ at the Australian Institute of Fitness, did you know there’s heaps of options for your career pathway?

If you want to get paid for something you love and stay fit at the same time, you’re in the right place. The fitness industry is booming right now, so there’s never been a better time for you all to start planning your new fitness career and be among like-minded people. By enrolling on the Master Trainer Program™  you’ll open up a world of opportunities for yourself, and you can choose to study whichever way suits you part-time, full-time or online or a mixture of both! As a student or graduate of AIF you have exclusive access to our Career Head-Start Program™ which will provide you with the tools and connections to kick start your career as a fitness professional.

With the industry evolving, personal training doesn’t have to be one-on-one training at your fitness centre either; there’s so much you can aspire to achieve and by becoming multi-skilled PT you are broadening your scope of practise! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Strength Training or Crossfit: After you have completed your Master Trainer Program™, why not get qualified as a Crossfit or strength and conditioning coach? Offer private sessions using Kettlebells, tyres, ropes, pull-up bars and weights, or open your own Crossfit gym.
  • With Kids, the Elderly or Disabled: As a part of your Master Trainer Program  you will learn about special populations and training children and elderly! Training these groups can be extremely rewarding, whether you’re playing games and doing activities with groups of kids or doing chair exercises with the elderly or disabled.
  • Athletes or Sports Teams: If you have goals to train athletes or sports teams its a great idea to gain some rehabilitation and strength and conditioning skills. This can be a great career path  if you come from a sporting background.
  • Outdoor Boot Camps or Circuits: Outdoor training is a trend in the industry that has been around for years and won’t be going away anytime soon! Perfect if you love the freedom of being outdoors, and works well if you live near a park or beach, but it pays to have wet weather back up plans so you never have to cancel a session!
  • Home Visits: Not all potential clients have access to a gym or want to pay for expensive membership fees. Plus, if you offer home visits you can factor this into your price and charge as little more for your travel time and travel expenses!
  • Group Exercise: If you’re bubbly and have good co-ordination, this is one for you. You can either take classes at your local fitness centres or at a community hall. Being a Group ex instructor gives you the opportunity to showcase your coaching skills in front of a group of potential clients! It is a great way to extend your brand
  • Aqua Instructor: Love water? Train clients in an indoor or outdoor pool, and discover the benefits for the injured, obese and disabled. Being an Aqua instructor, like a group exercise instructor gives you the opportunity to showcase your coaching skills in front of a group of potential clients!
  • Massage Therapist: Your clients will need massages to compliment their training, so who better to send them to than yourself. You can also offer your clients and their friends and family massage vouchers which make for great birthday or Christmas presents and offer you an extra profit centre.
