Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock

Australian Institute of Fitness Coach Bjorn Voon from the Perth campus reviews the Sleep Cycle alarm clock app.

Name: Sleep Cycle alarm clock
Cost: $1.19
Category: Healthcare and Fitness

What is it?

The Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock is a fun iPhone app that claims to chart your sleep patterns.

It gives you a graph of your sleep pattern based on your movements in the night, and you are able to see how long it took for you to get into your deepest sleep and then when you started to come out of your deep slumber.

You will then know first hand if you have had good nights sleep or not.

Best of all, is that the alarm clock wakes you up when you are coming out of deep sleep, rather than breaking your sleep when you are in a deep sleep. If this is accurate, you would then wake up more refreshed and more energetic!

Pros

  • You can see how deep you are sleeping at night.
  • You should now be waking up when you are ready to wake up.
  • You’ll be able to plan to get more sleep in the future.

Cons

  • Need to have your phone close by which could eventually affect your sleep cycles with the transmissions so turn off 3G, Wifi and Bluetooth before bed.
  • It’s all well and good saying it wakes you up when you are ready, but your boss won’t see the benefits when you’re late for work. This might take some practice to get right.
  • We’re also not sure if it’s 100% accurate, but it is a bit of fun and may give you an idea of how you’re sleeping. If you do have insomnia you’d be best off getting checked out properly by a doctor though.
