So, you’ve just finished your massage qualification and are unsure who you should register with? Firstly, congratulations on graduating and completing this very important step to becoming a fully-fledged massage therapist! You are now part of an amazing community of like-minded health professionals dedicating their unique set of skills and knowledge to helping people to improve their health. What you also may not realise is that, like all of us here at the Australian Institute of Fitness, you too are now a ‘Warriors against SeDS’ (Sedentary Death Syndrome), fighting the fight for a healthier and happier future.

Now that you are ready to branch out into the industry it’s super important to ensure you are recognised as a professional massage therapist. The first step is to join a Massage Therapy Association and have professional indemnity and public liability insurance to ensure you are fully covered and protected.

Here are my top two recommended Massage Therapy Associations for consideration:

  • The Association of Massage Therapists (AMT) is a national not-for-profit association representing qualified massage therapists and massage therapy students.  AMT advocates vigorously on behalf of its members to advance the profile and standing of massage therapists, and promote the health benefits of massage therapy. AMT was established in 1966 and is the oldest association in Australia to represent massage therapy in its own right and the premier representative body for professional therapists. I have been a member with AMT since 2004 and what I love most is the AMT teams continued support throughout my career in providing fun and interesting workshops to enhance my skills. They also ensure that I am fully covered with their preferred insurance provider so that I am a recognised health fund provider with the major health funds and ensure I stay up to date with my continuing educations points. The AMT team are always ready and willing to assist you with your enquires on all things massage. http://www.amt.org.au/
  • Massage & Myotherapy Australia is a not-for-profit associating body and brand of the Australian Association of Massage Therapists Limited (AAMT) established in 2003. AAMT’s commitment is to uphold, promote and ensure the highest quality of standards in the fields of massage, remedial massage and myotherapy. AAMT serves as a valuable resource for professional therapists, allied health providers and the public. It is their strong commitment to protecting the public and serving its members that has led the association to high levels of recognition in the sector. https://massagemyotherapy.com.au/

There are many other Massage Therapy Associations in Australia so make sure you take time in researching which association best suits your needs. All in all, they are all there to support you on your amazing massage journey and uphold the professional standard of practice in massage therapy.
