What Do I Need to Do to Be Class Champion?

From your first day on campus at the Australian Institute of Fitness right up to The Wrap the coaches are on the lookout for the next Class Champion! Tanna Wells, Fitness Coach at the Adelaide campus explains how you can be a champion.

Firstly what is the class Champion?

The Champion, is an award chosen by your Coaches to a student who really stands out from their peers and is serious about hitting their goals, and meets the below criteria. Why would you want to win this award? The Champion award is industry recognised, making you more employable for when you leave the Institute. In addition to this, the class Champion also receives a prize from Fitness First and it is another award you can add to your resume that will help you stand out from other Personal Trainers.

Master Trainer Eligibility

This means that you haven't struck out and therefore lost your eligibility for Master Trainer certification. To strike out you would've had to have received 3 strikes in 1 category punctuality, presentation, attitude or 5 strikes across the 3 categories. Ideally though, a champion would have not received any strikes, as strikes are a warning for not abiding by the Institute's standards.

Always Going the Extra Mile

Our champions are not satisfied with just being deemed competent; they strive to be the best and always go above and beyond. This means that they:

  • put in the extra study outside the classroom,

  • practice and refine their practical skills as often as possible,

  • help fellow tribe members to succeed in their efforts to become a qualified fitness professional.

Gaining a Range of Experience

Aside from the Trainer Experience Program (TEP) , our champions are learning from the best by training with our Coaches, and those that are out in the industry. Having a Personal Trainer not only enables you to learn a great range of skill but also gives you an innate understanding of what its like to change roles and be a client; something all Personal Trainers should be familiar with.

Actively Seeking Feedback

Feedback is the breakfast of champions! Whether the feedback is positive or constructive, it is there to make you a better Personal Trainer; something our champions actively seek from the Coaches, as well as from their industry mentors, peers and clients.

Making an Effort to Get to Know Everyone

The champion is also someone everyone knows for the right reasons, and this is not only in the classroom but throughout the whole campus across all of our departments. Champions bring a great energy to wherever they are and people want to be around them.

If your nodding your head and saying 'Yep, I can do all of that'', then you're already half way there! If you would like to find out how you are going, and whether you are currently in the running for Class Champion, why don't you go and ask your Coach? Asking for feedback is something the Coaches love after all, isn't it?
